J. Basheer & Associates was constituted as a proprietary concern in 1991and subsequently reconstituted into a private limited company in the year 1998. We have a distinguished group of highly qualified and experienced Licensed Surveyors with expertise in various fields.

The Company, over a span of almost three decades has established itself as one of the leading Survey firms in the country. With dedication, professionalism and integrity being the hallmarks of the company, we have served the industry well over the past 3 decades.

We have been awarded a Category “A” Survey License, by the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority of India (IRDA), which is the statutory body regulating the Insurance Industry in India, authorizing us to conduct Insurance Surveys without any financial limit. 

We provide a wide range of services to Industries in general and the Insurance Industry in particular, which include: Loss Assessment, Risk Evaluation, Risk Management/ Minimization, Damage Surveys and Warranty Surveys for Underwriters as well as Third Parties, Towage Approval Surveys, Condition & Valuation Surveys and Pre-Purchase Inspection of Vessels, in addition to Surveys of Offshore & Onshore Installations and related activities. Entrusted with the Risk Evaluation and Asset Valuation of several large scale ventures such as Major Ports, Industrial and Power Projects etc., by National and International Re-Insurers and Underwriters, Financial Institutions and Statutory Bodies.

 

We specialise in the loss adjustment and claims management of major Marine Hull and Cargo, Offshore/Onshore Energy, Aviation Insurance as well as Fire Insurance Claims, including catastrophic losses with particular expertise in arriving at and analyzing the Proximate Cause of Loss.
 

Our panel of experts includes Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Chartered Accountants, Civil Engineers, etc. We also have on our panel, a Legal Team comprising of Senior High Court and Supreme Court Advocates with sound knowledge and vast experience in Maritime Law including Admiralty Matters, Cargo Claims and Recoveries, Insurance Claims/Recoveries as well as International Trade & Shipping Law. We also have experienced senior  Pilots and Aeronautical Engineers on our panel for our Aviation Claims department.

Shahid Basheer, has been a Marine Surveyor for over 20 years now and has been awarded an MSc  in Maritime Operations (Specialising in Marine Surveying) from the UK, in addition to several courses in Naval Architecture as well as Marine Underwriting Principles and Practice in India as well as the UK.

 

Shahid is a Full Member of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (MRINA), UK as well as the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (MIMarEST) . He is also a Full Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (MIIMS), UK and an Associate Member of the Insurance Institute of India (specialising in Marine Underwriting).
 

Shahid has a double specialisation in Mobile Offshore Units in the Oil/Energy Sectors as well as in Super Yacht Surveying. 

 

He is regularly conducting training seminars and workshops at the Insurance Institute of India (III), National Insurance Academy among other Institutions, for Marine Hull & Cargo Surveying and Underwriting. Shahid also conducts the mandatory IRDA Surveyor Licensing training courses for Marine Hull & Marine Cargo departments, on behalf of III from time to time. 

Being an avid yachtsman, he has participated in and won several championships in the sports of Yacht Racing as well as Match Racing. He has also been part of the Indian Yachting Team, representing the nation in several International regattas.
